Students work together to make healthy recipes inspired by bunnies as they learn the importance of making healthy food and drink choices and will leave this workshop excited about eating more fruits and vegetables!
Not all food and drinks are created equal! Learning to recognize healthy foods is the foundation of growing a healthy body and avoiding preventable illness. In the I Spy the Healthy Choice workshop students identify the nutritious foods and discover why it’s important to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Students work together to make yummy nutritious recipes with their friends and will leave this workshop motivated to make healthy choices.
Seeds, roots, shoots, flowers, and fruits—the plant parts growing in the garden are good for you! In the Nutrition in the Garden workshop students inspect all dimensions of the garden, taking a closer look at the edible plant parts we eat. Engaging activities highlight the wonders of a variety of fruits and vegetables. Students prepare healthy recipes featuring the parts of plants and leave this workshop understanding the many health benefits to be found in a garden.
What you eat can truly save your health! In the Nutrition Superheroes workshop students meet real-life nutrition superheroes from history and modern times who have used the superpowers of healthy foods to save lives and make the world a better place. Students learn what it takes to be their own nutrition superhero, practice the power of preparing delicious and nutritious foods, and will leave this workshop with a new enthusiasm for eating more fruits and vegetables.
Nutrition science is barely 100 years old and nutrition scientists are still making new discoveries today. In the Discovering Nutrients workshop students chart the course of nutrition science pioneers through true stories from throughout history that lead to our current understanding of human nutrition today. Students prepare healthy recipes that contain the full symphony of nutrients and leave this workshop with an appreciation for whole foods and the human journey to discovering nutrients.
Green, orange, red and blue, colorful foods are good for you! In the Nutrition Rainbow workshop students explore the health benefits found in the colors of fresh fruits and vegetables. True stories from throughout history unlock the mysteries of the Nutrition Rainbow. Students learn to prepare delicious recipes featuring all the food color groups and will leave this workshop understanding the importance of eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables every day.
Good nutrition supports the healthy growth and maintenance of the body. In the Nutrition & the Body workshop students examine how what they eat impacts various parts of their body. Nutrition science stories and true tales reveal the importance of making healthy choices when it comes to food and drink. Students prepare healthy recipes featuring nutrients of special importance to various body systems and will leave this workshop prepared to make smart nutrition choices that support a healthy body.
Disease and illness have perplexed people since the dawn of time, but nutrition scientists are solving some of these health mysteries. In the Nutrition Mysteries workshop students investigate some of the greatest nutrition mysteries through true stories and scientific evidence. Students discover how easy it is to prepare healthy tasty foods from simple ingredients and will leave this workshop with a greater grasp on how a healthy diet can help prevent common chronic diseases.
Plants have been used as traditional medicinals and to support wellness throughout human history. In the Intro to Herbalism workshop students explore the tradition of plant-based remedies throughout time while becoming aquaninted with the safest herbs used to support people in sickness and in health. Students will prepare simple herbal recipes using easy-to-find ingredients and will leave this workshop better able to use plants for common ailments and in support of every-day-wellness.
